About me
"I grew up making, growing, and picking flowers for my mom to take to the Kodak Hula Show. I have learned different methods of lei-making from my different Kumu Hula. Also, I was honored to be chosen as one of three lei makers to represent Hawaii at the Folklife Festival in Washington DC and Hawaii. It was a great honor to be with such great lei makers as Marie McDonald and Irmalee Pomroy at those festivals. I was also honored to be asked to demonstrate at the Pacific Arts Festival in Australia, Samoa, and the Cook Islands. I have also been the lei judge at the International Hula Competition and E Hula Mau. As a Kumu Lei, I have taught at UH Manoa's Adult Education, Kamehameha Schools, Honolulu Community College, Kapiolani Community College, and Temari Fiber Art School. I now just do two classes: one for Kamehameha Hoolaulea and one for Punahou Carnival. This past year, I was presented with the Honpa Hongwanji of Hawaii's Living Treasure Award."
