About me
Janne Larsen is a Los Angeles–based artist and educator who works with botanical inks, plant-based color, and foraged fruit wines. Her practice focuses on creating art materials from locally gathered plants, linking creativity to place, ecology, and the cultural histories of Southern California flora. Through hands-on workshops, she teaches participants how to transform leaves, bark, berries, and skins into vibrant inks while encouraging careful observation and relationship-based making.
Her work is shaped by co-teaching with Sabra Kauka and by preparing ink for kapa for the Merrie Monarch Festival, strengthening her commitment to traditional plant practices and respectful relationships with plant materials. Larsen has taught in museums, retreat centers, and community spaces, bringing together art, environmental education, and social practice.
